Dr. Shelby Crespo, ND, LCSW, LMSW, has been in your shoes. She too has experienced these symptoms first-hand and understands how challenging day-to-day life can be when you are burdened with symptoms of imperfect health. Dr. Crespo, ND wants to support you in reaching your health goals so you too can feel your absolute best!
 
Dr. Crespo, ND, believes healthcare should not be a one-size fits all approach. She understands every individual has a unique set of factors that impacts their health. These factors can include genetics, personal health history, adverse life events, access to healthcare, access to nutritional foods, health education, personality, coping strategies, stress, lifestyle, and many more. Further, she recognizes each of us can manifest health concerns or “dis-ease” differently based on any one of these components. She believes an individualized approach is essential to aid you in regaining your health. 
 
Shelby draws on a vitalistic philosophy to address health concerns. She believes the body has the inherent ability to heal itself given the right environment, tools, and support. Her toolbox includes botanicals, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, nutrition, nutraceuticals, nature cure, and lifestyle coaching. 
 
Dr. Crespo, ND, is excited to team up with you to share her knowledge along with your desire for better health. Together you will create an individualized wellness plan, rooted in evidenced-based recommendations, to help you achieve a more healthful state and get your vitality back! While she was trained to address a vast array of health conditions, Shelby has a passion for working with women of any age, especially those experiencing peri-menopause, menopausal symptoms or needing post-menopausal support. Additionally, she enjoys working with individuals looking to optimize their mental health, and individuals advancing in age who want to improve or maintain their current level of health.
 
Her clients and colleagues alike describe her as a warm, caring and compassionate individual. It is her desire that you feel heard, supported, uplifted and included in decision-making regarding your health.
 
Dr. Crespo, ND, knew at the age of 7 while being interviewed for the “Student of the Month” award by her local school district newspaper, that she “wanted to be a doctor to help people”. Like many of us, she found her way to Naturopathic Medicine through a close family member. Her older sister, who had been researching alternative health approaches for her son diagnosed with Autism, first introduced her to the idea of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Despite working in the healthcare system for many years, Dr. Crespo, ND, was not aware alternative approaches to health even existed (totally lame, I know!). It was through their lengthy discussions (as sisters often do) that she began to seek out alternative healthcare for her own chronic health struggles. Shelby was so convinced by her experience, her love for the Naturopathic Medicine philosophy, and the desire to help others regain their health, she knew what she had to do! She decided to change her career path and finally realize her dream of becoming a doctor.
 
Shelby received her doctorate (ND) from the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, Oregon. NUNM is a four-year naturopathic medical school accredited by the Council of Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME). Her training included Naturopathic Primary Care with a focus on Women’s Health. She maintains an active Naturopathic Physician license, in good-standing, in the State of Oregon.
 
Shelby’s professional life has centered entirely around medicine. She has spent the past 21 years in the medical field in various capacities. Prior to her medical school education, Shelby spent 12 years in the field of Medical Social Work. Her focus centered around Military Veterans, and Kidney Disease/Transplant. In addition, she has served on a variety of professional boards including medical ethics, and held several leadership positions including supervisory roles. Dr. Crespo, ND, holds active Clinical Social Work licenses in the State of Illinois (LCSW) and the State of Michigan (LMSW).  She has discovered her social work skills blend seamlessly with the principles and whole person approach of Naturopathic Healthcare.
